In a final presidential candidates list released by the IEBC, one thing is conspicuously unusual, the fact that the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was among the IEBC list of presidential aspirants of the coming August elections, despite Raila Odinga being the official NASA bearer. While his inclusion in the list raised eyebrows, the Wiper leader attempted to bring clarity to the whole fiasco.
The former vice president was endorsed by the NASA team as Raila Odinga’s running mate. His inclusion in the list of presidential aspirants sparked confusion and mixed reaction from NASA supporters. Wiper secretary General Hassan Omar acted swiftly to diffuse any misinformation. Omar clarified that the inclusion of Kalonzo in the list was simply a case of a “list passed by events”.
“We first submitted Kalonzo as the Wiper flag bearer, but on the basis of the coalition government (NASA) He will be Raila Odinga’s running mate.” He said. Among the other aspirants in the race include 8 presidential candidates (including Raila and Uhuru), 183 individuals eyeing the various gubernatorial seats, 265 senatorial aspirants and a record 9221 Members of the County assembly aspirants.
The total number of aspirants on the ballot now stands at 16,000 across various political parties.
