Kalonzo Musyoka has been dealt a major blow in Ukambani after two long time allies endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kitui Senator David Musila and Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze urged residents of Kitui to vote for Uhuru as he was development minded. Musila in April had fallen out with Kalonzo whom he blamed for rigging him out of the Wiper Party Kitui gubernatorial primaries.
Nyenze said people of Kitui should elect Uhuru as the county had benefited from his leadership.
”Whoever has eyes needs not be told to see the development President Uhuru has done, my people elect this man for his outstanding development,” Nyenze said.
Musila agreed with Nyenze claiming that Jubilee had endeavored to empower the youth, women and the disabled in Kitui.
“I support Nyenze. Vote for me as an independent candidate, elect President Kenyatta without minding his Jubilee party,” Musila is quoted.
The move by Nyenze and Musila is set to impact negatively Kalonzo’s influence in Kitui and greater Ukambani as the two politicians had been his major campaigners in the region.
Nyenze was angered by the National Super Alliance (NASA) for naming Raila Odinga the presidential flag bearer instead of Kalonzo. Musila ditched Wiper Party in May, 2017 after losing the party primaries for the Kitui gubernatorial seat to incumbent Julius Malombe. The Kitui senator accused Kalonzo of rigging him out in the nominations and withdrew his support for NASA.
