A section of Ukambani leaders now want the late Francis Nyenze’s widow Edith Nyenze to be declared the next Kitui West MP, adding that she would complete projects initiated by her late husband.
Led by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, the leaders want the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to declare and swear-in the late Nyenze’s wife Edith Nyenze as Kitui West legislator.
Speaking during the burial of the late MP on Tuesday, Ngilu said that there is no need for locals to be engaged in a by-election.
“I have heard what Kitui West wants, Edith Nyenze you will carry this seat on your shoulder and I will campaign for you,” Ngilu said at the burial
She stated that Nyenze’s wife will still win in a by-election adding that resource that could be used for a by-election should be channeled to other use.
“She is courageous and I strongly back her. I believe she will complete projects that were initiated by the husband.”
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo said: “In my opinion, Edith can finish this job because she is capable. That is my wish.”
Other leaders backing Nyenze’s wife for the Kitui West seat are Senator Enoch Wambua and Women Representative Irene Kasalu.
The sentiments from senior Ukambani members now brings to rest a debate whether or not Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka should go for the seat.
The late Nyenze passed-away on December 6, after a 10 year battle with colon cancer. NASA leader Raila Odinga led politicians in sending off the late Wiper legislator at his Kitui West rural home.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka missed the burial after the plane he was to use from Germany delayed.
